3rd Year Anniversary @ Pangkor Island

Wee~ 3rd Year anniversary..

We celebrated our 4th year anniversary on 14th April 2010.. –.-“

Anyway, Pangkor was major FUN!! Partly because we found the right hotel promotion and the other part was the company.. (ehem.. I meant me)

The journey:

I would recommend you to drive there. The drive there was very enjoyable. No dangerous winding road uphill and downhill (co..genting..ugh*) and Look at the view!

Do stop for Air Nira on the way there.. The cooling drink is just the right drinks to start a beach holiday. It was one of the most refreshing and cooling drink to replenish yourself during the long drive. It was yumz!!

I’m gonna let Catfish do all the mundane detail work of describing the taste and full history of Air Nira.

Catfish Nibbles: Air Nira is one of the sweetest natural drink I had ever drink plus it does not leave any after taste like those over sweetened drink in restaurants. It was RM2 each pack.

There is many Air Nira stalls along the way.

Shea! The drive cannot be any easier. Catfish will be happy provide the direction if you ask. Bring him some fish food..

Catfish nibbles: The old road is easy to drive, highly recommended. The road were so straight that you could even let go your steering for some part of the trip. <—don’t try this =P. Check out the road map here to see how straight the road is. There are 2 turns you need to make but worry not just follow the sign indicating “Lumut” or “Sitiawan”. Shea, you can get me air nira. heheh…

Wonder if Air Nira causes immediate hair growth. Be forewarn the hair will be bit greenish and spiky. See..

Catfish Nibbles: There is a 3 storey car park available located walking distance to the ferry. RM10 per day.

At the jetty. Must take some tourist shot to set the mood.

In the ferry. Pardon my tired face. Last minute packing the night before.. *Yawn* What’s new??

You get nipple sticker if you behave on the boat.

Catfish Nibbles: We got on the private shutter to get us to the Pangkor Island Beach Resort Lobby from the jetty.

When we reach the hotel lobby, we had a very welcoming entrance. All of us were given a drink and greeted by 2 very energetic singers.

Catfish was with his NEW camera in the lobby. Hence the greenish pictures above.. Setting semua salah..

Catfish Nibbles: The hotel room were huge but slightly old I would say.

After settling down in our room, we immediately enquire about the transport/tour to the city. We wanted SEAFOOD!!… (Again, mundane details like pricing will be by Catfish)

Catfish Nibbles: The ‘taxi’ in Pangkor are all by one taxi community the pink vans. They basically have fix prices. A round trip tour which includes fish factory, Foo Lin Kong Temple and Dutch fort cost RM40 each person. Bloody expensive! What we did was we negotiated for the tour but leave us at the town, which he charged us RM20 each. 50% because no round trip back to hotel. It was tough work to get the deal!

First stop was the fish packaging tour. Nothing much here though. The Seafood items sold here were not really fresh and cheap. Luckily we bought a little only else we are sure to regret when we get to the town. Don’t spend too much time here!

Foo Lin Kong Temple. If you can’t get to China, this is THE BEST PLACE to actually conquer the China’s Great Wall! It is just so easy to climb!

Next up the Dutch Fortress. Nothing special.

Catfish Nibbles: The city is filled with a lot pink vans, so no worry for transportation. The town is filled with seafood shop. Do scout and try the seafood snacks at diffrent shop before you make your purchase. We found one shop particularly cheap and fresh! There are plenty of banks here so if you need… The hotel have none.

Seafood! but it was so-so only.. The only picture of food here.. Promise!

Catfish Nibbles: This is apparently the only seafood available in town at that time. We ordered 1 salted egg crab, 1 sweet sour crab, 1 claypot seafood vege and a coconut each! It caused us RM54 not so cheap though.

Catfish Nibble: We brought these to celebrate our 3rd year anniversary.

Catfish Nibbles: The fridge is not cold..The only complain I have for the hotel room. The hotel service were good enough to try to change the fridge. Even that did not help but they offer us a fridge to keep our strawberries with the restaurant.

2nd day was dedicated to the hotel, enjoying their private beach and facilities. The promotion package includes all non motorised sports free.

Catfish Nibbles: In case if you are wondering how PIBR’s private beach look like. The sand on the beach is always clean, they have rubbish collecting machine sweeping up rubbish every 3 hours or so.

We went for kayak, the beach waves were a little rough at that time. We wanted to try out the kayak sailing but were not brave enough to do it.

Next we got a bicycle each.

OMG! Wat’s that?

I think I’m more qualified to be a National Geographic presenter. Catfish can be the camera man. We were chasing it hoping it will flash his tail.

Catfish Nibbles: We got to play Archery and fishing during the night for free too! There is a list of weekly event timetable.

Bangkok: Chao Phraya River Cruise Dinner+Khao San

Hahaha this draft post was sitting in my computer as a draft post for ages, even after I got back from another Thai trip, Krabi, it still is there. This continues from Bangkok!!! post.

Here it goes:

Well before we got off to Bangkok in 2009, I had a fair amount of research on Chao Phraya River Cruise and came across a fantastic site http://thailand-travel-info.blogspot.com/2005/11/river-dinner-cruises-bangkok.html.

I chose River Side Bangkok Cruise because:
1. It is the largest cruise ship in Chao Phraya River with air conditioning and open air rooftop.
2. It takes one of the longest route along Chao Phraya River which means more night attraction spot.
3. It has it’s own kitchen on board! You can order your dinner as if you are on a landed restaurant with similar price to Thai restaurant on land.
4. Most importantly the cheapest with a surcharge of 120 baht to board on the ship.

I called them up 1-2 weeks prior to my arrival to Bangkok. I was impressed with their service, their english were good and they allow me to make booking request to be on the rooftop open air. They totally trust you with the reservation without any deposit.

Our first day of Bangkok visit continues with FOOD before the river cruise because we arrived too early at Ratchawithi Road past the Krung Thon Bridge. There were a whole long row of street side food.

Can you believe this? 1 baht each piece?

It is some flour and vege with some of another nice thai sauce! yum yum…

Next up with some must have Thai BBQ pork… We were suppose to have light snack but we got too greedy… LOL.

After a wrong turn, we finally made it to the hotel on time.

PW was so happy to see the lights on the cruise ship despite the fact that we were overly tired out after a whole day of historical building visits.

We were a little unfortunate to be sitting in side the ship instead of the open air rooftop due to the bad rainy weather. The ship were big and stable despite the rocky river.

The were life band to set the mood, singing both local and english songs.

They gave a briefing on safety similar to the one in air flights before we take off.

We only knew that there were life vest under our seat after the briefing.

First up, we ordered a pineapple fried rice. The cut on the pineapple were almost perfect. It took me a while to look for the opening. DOn’t laugh! I know I’m dumb =p

It comes with meat floss, fresh prawns and another meat floss (can’t really rmb). The portion was good for 2. We were hungry so obviously it tasted yummy! But really it was good.

Green curry came with some side dishes which doesn’t serve any purpose to us.

This is one of the best green curry I had ever eaten in my life. The gravy is thick and smooth and santan-y filled with lots and lots of meat! At one point we were asking each other, has we finish the meat?

The last dish we were expecting was the Tom Yum Kung and finally it came. Impressive presentation. We each scoop up a bowl. The soup were fantastic, spicy but tasty enough, Cantonese call it “yup mei”.

Somehow there were some confusion with our last order, it was not the Tom Yum but Spicy Soup. Haha before they took back, we had each a bowl full of it.

Just a note, a few of the Tom Yum we ordered in Bangkok were clear color soup, not the typical red Tom Yum we had back in Malaysia.

At last this was the Tom Yum Kung that we ordered. We were happy to get our final dish correctly but we were somewhat disappointed because the spicy soup tasted so much better than it.

After the our dinner, luckily the heavy rain stopped. We managed to get some night photo shots.

If you are there to learn some historical story of the Chao Phraya river, they have a guide on board but you need some Thai language knowledge. We didn’t understand anything. –.-"

After disembark from the cruise, we head out to Khao San which was nearby. It got more crowded and happening compared to our previous visit.

Hahah just look at my hungry ghost face… Can’t stop eating despite the fact that we had such a FULL stomach.

We had this. Some crunchy apam balik with raisins and coconuts with sweet stuff (like meringue). Nice!

We didn’t manage to get to meet with our favorite friendly PadThai lady who we met on our previous visit so sad. The food shops actually moves from place to place after certain time. It gets confusing if you are using them as meeting points.

Honestly, could you actually “Fly For Less Than A Padthai”? (PadThai = 25Baht)

The river cruise was a great experience and food on board was delicious. I think this cruise ship is meant more for the locals, hence, the Thai speaking guide. That’s maybe part of the reason that it was relatively cheap. 120 baht for admission and food price were similar to on land price.

Merry Nibbly Christmas!

Woo hoo, it’s already past midnight… I’ve been writing this post since Christmas… 8920 (8920, internal office code.. =p)

On Christmas Eve, we had a Christmas gift exchange session.

It’s so nice of ShookYee to make us some nice blueberry muffins (I’m not sure if it is strawberry). Thank you!

Chirstmas Eve is actually our last day of work of year 2009. It is an official off days for all of us till 4th of January 2010.

We were all playing Christmas music using USB on Sony TV blasting it through the whole break time and lunch time. Iron man and Terminator 4 played using USB Video. Awww really no mood to work leh…

We tried to kill time by killing some reindeer as well.

And I didn’t know that killing a reindeer will make you a stupider reindeer.

YAY!

We had made ourselves back to Bangkok again all thanks to Airasia. Our tickets cost us both around RM300 return flight. It was a spontaneous booking, hell with it, it cost around the same getting to Singapore by BUS…

Well spontaneous booking without proper research ain’t that good. 2 days before we took off, I found that everyday will be a RAINY DAY?!!! HELL NO~~!!!

Based on last year Bangkok shopping trip, we knew very well how much we should pack our bags this time. We took minimal clothing and essentials only + 2 BIG bags. The heaviest cloth was my jeans. This is how empty both our bags are. We put them together for easy travel…

It is only 1/4 bag full only. Both bags alone weight 10kg in total. That leaves us 20kg worth of shopping. (We did such a good job that we actually ran out of clothes and proper shoe to wear. I missed out a pants for sleeping and a shoe, had to get one there, that’s how minimal it is)

PW looking forward towards to the trip very much. Just look at her smile…

We were extremely lucky to get the whole row to ourselves. Well not exactly ‘ourselves’ but maybe PW only. Well you get the picture.

The flight was quite a bumpy one but it got so much better when the pilot decided to fly on a lower altitude. This is what we saw right when we got below the dark cloud. I wonder what island is this?

I’m not sure whether is it the anxiety or the discomfort bumpy cloud that makes the flight so damn long.

BUT WE ARE FINALLY IN BANGKOK!!! YAY again!

As soon as we got to the airport, we grab any free Bangkok maps in our sight like robbing every tourist counter when we were on our way to the taxi booth.

We got a cool taxi, a little too big for 2 folks.

It was pretty hard job holding our gas in. See the no farting sign. Plus we got stuck in a jam which took us a little more than 1h to get to our hotel, Samran Place. (Without the jam, we took only 30min – 40min only)

First tourist Stop: Wat Pho or The temple of Reclining Buddha. Entrance Fee is 50 baht each.

Mr. Wiki says: It is one of the largest and oldest wats in Bangkok. The Reclining Buddha is forty-six metres long and fifteen metres high, decorated with gold plating on his body and mother of pearl on his eyes and the soles of his feet.

So Big~~ We can fit into his lubang hidung.. Sorry Amithaba..

While we are busy cam whoring in front of the Buddha, we keep hearing the sound of raining coins.. We thought it was some feng shui tape playing in the background.

But when we peek behind the Buddha, we saw rows of this. $_$

There’s a counter for you to change your bills to coins. It’s a form of donation to the temple as well as good blessings. You are suppose to drop the coin in the pot while saying prayers.

So for those of us tourist who don’t know any prayers just chant your wish. Crossing finger that it will come true.

She almost died climbing those steep stairs and had to hold on to my hands. I wonder how she still manage to have the energy to camwhore.

There are suppose to have more than a thousand Buddhas to be spotted in Wat Pho but we only manage to find a few. Future travelers to Wat Pho: you can make your trip more interesting by making a mission to spot the thousand Buddhas.

The minute we found this building, we knew very well that this is the famous message school because of the message oil pungent smell.

It is well recommended but the price is around 100 baht more. We did not try it since it was just the beginning of our trip.

We got extremely hungry without lunch so we headed outside of Wat Pho for some BBQ pork which we enjoyed so much but unfortunately, it RAIN!!! What a spoiler to the first day!

Both of us got stuck at one of the entrance of Wat Pho. You can just see how wet we were.

We met a very friendly professor at Wat Pho. He recommended us to pay visit to the Black Buddha which opens only once a month and the EXPORT Shop which he said there is a promotion going on and ‘things’ are super cheap there.

He convinced us that the port to go to Wat Arun will be flooded with rain and the sunset will be a good few hours away. We took his recommendation.

He helped us to bargain for a 40 baht tuk tuk.

It was great experience for the first time in a tuk tuk although it is dangerous with no seat belt and door.

Don’t believe how heavy the rain was? The roads were flooded OK!

We tried to ask why the Black Buddha is only open once month to public but no one knows. We hope that this temple is ‘leng’ + it was faith that got us there to pray.

After praying at the Black Buddha, we headed off to the ‘Export’ shop. We look forward to it so much but to our very dissapointment, it was a local gem shop!! We felt conned by the professor… We got out empty handed.

When we got out of the shop, the rain started again and our tuk tuk driver said that the Wat Arun port is still not in good condition. He asked us a favor whether we could help him out to visit his sponsor.

Well… guess what’s the shop? GEM!! GEM!! GEM!!!
ARGH!!! 2 gem shop in one day! I can’t believe it! Later when we look at the free Bangkok map we got from airport, first reminder to tourist, do not fall into the tuk tuk and gem scam.

Finally, we got back to the Tha Tien Pier for the Wat Arun ferry. Our stomach started to growl again since we had a disrupted lunch at Wat Pho.

First, we got some fried crabs. Not soft shell. Was pretty difficult for my jaw to chew on.

Next, we got some grilled bananas.

I looked like a hungry monkey waiting for the ferry. The ferry cost us only 3 baht/one way.

In the ferry heading to Wat Arun, we saw a good few personal tourist guides.

This is something you won’t miss when you arrive at the Wat Arun side of the ferry pier. CATFISH!! There are humongous. I had a short thought what happen if I join them for a short swim will they recognise me or BITE me?

Wat Arun is decorated with China porcelain in shapes of flower. Imagine how they build and maintain it for such a long time.

After one long hour there, we finally feel satisfied with the sunset mood so we started to ‘climb’ down the steep stairs and get back to the new Bangkok city side.

Hot Chick!!

Dear Readers,

You know Sunny Boy.

Now I present to you ‘Hot Chick’. (Disclaimer: That ‘P’ sticker is not meant for me..)

But look at Hot Chick’s 1st doctor visit. T______________________________T

Tell me, did I kena con or wat? Is this the “market” price? Shop’s name mosaic-ed because I’m giving them the benefit of the doubt.. But ENLIGHTEN me please~

I’m sooo feeling the burn and sam tong-ness ok.

I hate using services of mechanics, plumber, electrician, etc etc other service oriented people..

I always feel conned and stupid around them. For me, they are like vultures.

When you bring your car to a mechanic, there will always be something wrong with it. (Oil seal leaking la, mounting break la, absorber soft la, filter dirty la, pump puncture la, add many many more parts break, loose, hard, soft, etc etc destructive adjective)

Never understood what they say, and worse case is you can never judge the seriousness of it because they will be telling you all the worse case scenario. Maybe the situation is not that bad.

Just imagine that you are visiting a doctor for a small cut on your finger and your prescription is a new prosthetic arm. T___T Skip the medicine. Their story is a cut risk infection, then assume it will spread to your arm then you will need to chop off your arm. So to avoid that, just use a ‘plastic’ arm.

It’s like if you don’t do anything to it then you won’t feel safe using your arm or driving the car in my case.

AND they quote ridiculous price for small simple job. Changing a fuse cost you RM100 when it only require a few minutes work. Even Catfish can do it. *proud* It’s like charging you RM100 to place a plaster on the said cut if you are smart enough to not buy the plastic arm. T_T My uncle’s electrician friend said so himself one. I’m not just saying it based on nothing.

Any useful tips or good guide book out there on how to handle these service people? Help me. *beg* I will appreciate it a lot X 100000000000000000…… ‘sleeping 8’ (sleeping 8? neh, infinity la.)

Michelangelo’s @ Pavilion

It’s been ages since ‘We’ have been blogging. I must say it have been a long crazy, stressful and health threatening month of work.

But the tiring working Saturdays is coming to an end soon and workload is easing up a little. On top of that, we had just returned from a very ‘dehydrated’ Bangkok trip. I thought we deserve a good hearty meal.

We head to a restaurant that I had wanted to try for such a long time, Michelangelo’s in Pavilion.

Surprisingly the one in Sunway Pyramid has closed down and turned into some bad bad bad Taiwanese restaurant. That is a story for another day, we got picture and evidence. Please avoid it at all cost.

PW look very happy since I’m treating her.

The ambience was perfect for a nice romantic peaceful dinner.

Besides this section, there is also a smoking area outside where most foreigners will be chilling out with jugs of beer. Also enjoying view of neighbor restaurant customer blowing their Shisha pipes.

We ordered a soup as our appetizer, Creme di Funghi. First sip, the soup tasted slightly sour-ish but surprisingly the overall taste blend in quite well together. One word: Weird~

As for our main dish, PW ordered Risotto di Mare. The dish is full of seafood, it’s quite worth the money.

Doubt how much seafood were in the Risotto? This is what PW had collected and it is just half of it + lots of squid in it. PW presented a very nice dish here, I thought I should give her some credit for this.

I got the Pollo alla Cacciatora. Whole thigh + spaghetti with capsicum in rosemary sauce.

My dish on the other hand had nothing much to collect at the end of it. This is how it turns out…

The food were superb. I must say the risotto gravy, spaghetti sauce and the serving are perfect. Writing this blog makes my mouth watering again. I had a great time treating PW and myself such an costly meal after a taxing month.

What’s happier than stripping a prawn perfectly! Wee~

I absolutely recommend this ristorante when you have a little extra to spare for the month. You should also tryout their tomato basil bruschetta which KLue recommends.

We will definitely come back for more.

Well, not really raining men..

I prefer raining Megan Fox. But if the report is true that Megan Fox is a transvestite.. cue song* Oh! It’s raining men! HALLELUJAH!!! hahaha…

Back to point. The song is actually describing how’s the weather in the room.

If rain come from clouds, then this is our cloud. A big faulty dusty white cloud that had been raining indoor for almost a week.

The Haier air-cond in the room was leaking water into the room instead of flowing out of the room… Which means we can’t on the air-cond for too long because once it starts to get slightly cold this is what happened.

Our ears were prepared to pick up any sign of dripping water. One drip everyone in the room will be running with a pail to the air-cond. Very good exercise.

We can’t on the air-cond without supervision. So we have to sleep in sweat through the hot nights for 4-5 days. In the end we can’t take it anymore and determined to turn the air-cond ON no matter what. After some time of rescuing the table from rain, this is what happened:

After much investigation, I was told that the leaking air-cond is probably due to blockage in the pipe directing air to the outside unit. Means it’s time to give your air-cond a service. Chemical service is a better option to clear the blockage.

But during our last service, the guy told us that the air-cond was not in a very good shape. The blower/fan of the Haier is blowing like an old man.

WoOOoo… WooOO… WOOO… Wooo… WooOO…

Instead of:

WooooooooooooooooOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooo…

So the ultimate solution is to replace the OLD MAN

We went to scout for prices typical of me. Really thanks to my aunt to accompany along.

Found one decent shop for all household electric appliances Tan Boon Ming (http://www.tbm.com.my). They have about 5 branches throughout Klang Valley and they have one of the widest range of brand and series. How often can you see Daikin, Panasonic, Hitachi, Mitsubishi, Sharp and Midea together. Well you better check out TBM.

Our criteria for an aircond:
1. Inverter type since we switch ON the aircond for more than 8h throughout the whole night.
2. Reliable and cooling

Daikin is cheap but were using the R22 HCFC. We ended up with Hitachi, Mitsubishi and Panasonic which are using R410 gas.

Ultimately we ended up with:
Why? Because it is the cheapest among the 3 and also I had not come across any bad complain about it on reviews online.

The best compliment I would give this aircond is that it is one of the most silent aircond that I had ever come across. Not a single noise from the compressor and at times when the aircond stop operating, you might even think that “Eh?! Didn’t I just switched it ON”.

Not Hiroshima but Lowyat?

In Penang, we have Char Kuew Teow.

In Melaka, we have Gula Melaka Chendol.

In Ipoh, we have Steamed Chicken Bean Sprout Rice.

In Klang, we have Bak Kut Teh.

In Ampang, we have Yong Tao Fu.

While in Japan, Sai-san have taught me that:

The finest Takoyaki can be found in Osaka.

But highlight of the day is Hiroshima Okonomiyaki!!

Okonomi means “What you like” or “what you want” and yaki means “grilled” or “bbq”… So basically it’s grill everything you like. PW wonder if it’s possible to add in marshmallow.

Unfortunately, I've never been to Hiroshima and Sony HQ in Japan is no where near it. Lucky enough Sai-san did manage to get me to try out Okonomiyaki at a bazaar near Japan HQ during one of the visit. But still he said the FINEST OKONOMIYAKI IS FOUND IN HIROSHIMA!!!

I think I missed Japan alot~~

Sigh~ So I have to settle for the next best thing nearest to Sony BANGI instead. While browsing through the World Wide Web for new Japanese buffet (We found one. Wait for it) I stumble upon this Okonomiyaki place in Lowyat.

Restaurant Jepun Okonomiyaki Citarasa Asli Hiroshima:
This shop give me the same feeling I have with all the restaurant in Japan. It is cramped.

The Okonomiyaki here is a little different from those I ate in Japan. A common version in Tokyo is more like a flatten Takoyaki with more flour, ‘liu’ and without yakisoba.

After a long look at the menu, we ordered Tuna Okonomiyaki

and the Okonomiyaki All Stars

All Stars contain all the ingredient available except Tuna in one Okonomiyaki as illustrated below.

The dishes are served on a hot “teppan” in front of the chef cooking just like how they do it at Mr. Teppanyaki. PW enjoyed the whole session till the bit.

They even have this notice on the table just like how Japanese like to do with any warning or notice. Again I miss Japan.

The chef give me a feel of a Japanese where they will strive for perfection for every dish. The dish he prepared must be in perfect shape, same amount of ingredient and neatness with no loose cabbages around. A little bit of OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) I must say.

PW was particularly interested with the chef (guy) with his muscular arm performing all the kung fu moves with the spatula. Sigh looking like this –>

I’ve tried to get more photos here but his moves are way too fast to be captured by a camera. But anyway if you are interested, do stop by at the shop and have a peek girls…

I can’t stand how PW kept staring at the chef moves so I tried to pull out some kung fu moves with the spatula and some muscles… Keng mou…

The shop did a very good job in serving the food in terms of friendliness and cleanliness. There was once I asked for extra Okonomiyaki sauce on my dish. The waitress said that they have run out of it so they never allow us to add on our self. Still she gave me a few good squirt to make my dish taste better!

I think it is a little pricey. Our total bill sums up to about RM50. However, I think the price is just alright since I got the last one at about 500 yen so conversion is around RM20.

The Okonomiyaki here taste alright for the Malaysian standard but it is near to nothing even if you are comparing to those Okonomiyaki that you can get at the street side in Tokyo.

I want to go Japan again~!! I-ta-da-ki-mas!!

This post is dedicated to Mr.Small Gas aka Catfish who is currently on a blogging strike.

Last weekend out of a sudden, he make an announcement to me. He declared that he won’t blog until I start blogging again. gulp~

So evil of him! Depriving all his loyal reader of interesting long gas blog posts..
Bad Catfish..

I got solid reason why I stop blogging K. Laziness is one of them and it is a damn good reason too I must say. Agree? OK OK.. My bad.. Don’t throw shoes at me.

Actually, poor Catfish here have tried countless way of motivating me to start blogging again.

He tried the more gentle way of encouragement where he actually gather feedback from people and relay it back to me individually.. But in doing so, he starts to feel less loved by you guys and he actually sulked to me. hahhaha.. You guys please give him deserved praising and comments as well.. Terima Kasih banyak banyak.

he tried scolding.. (he better be careful with this)

he tried tickling.. but I’m not scared of tickle.. In fact, he’s the one who are running round the room. (I only have one spot of weakness and I’m definitely not revealing it to you here.. hehehe)

He tried ignoring me the whole night thinking I’ll be bored and will start blogging. So fail.. I got so many drama to watch, lots of books to read, manga chapters to catch up with, restaurant to build… etc etc..

And finally The Blogging Strike… He’s being very determined! Normally I can manja my way out of anything with him but he’s being very serious this time. I tried one last depressed card today and he finally soften down. He say he’ll blog.

But to not lose face, he told me that I have to blog at least one sentence. I was planning to be mean and blog only one sentence but I started feeling guilty for abandoning Nibble of Thought to Catfish alone. This is suppose to be a joint effort.

So people, do visit more often as we’ll start our blogging mode again.

It’s been a very sad long week during our absence from blog. My deepest sympathy and heartfelt condolences to See family. Do drop a message for PW in the Nibbling Box –>. She will be back to read it.

In KL-Marathon post, it was a spontaneous act joining King of the Road Shah Alam. Maybe we were over into the hype of marathon then.

The receipt for the run made the organizer looks very well planned. It was divided to 3 parts where 2 parts were used to collect your race pack and for reporting on the day of race. The shirt was not the quality as I’ve expected when we registered though .

Hew and me took part in the 11km race.

It was lucky that we have opt for the 11km race. The weather was not very good for the run as the haze was very thick.

The road was not an easy game, it was continuous uphill and downhill. Never a good flat land. Especially the 1km stretch at the start and the finish route. It was terribly difficult to run. I’m not sure if it was because I’ve had only 2.5h of sleep or was it the haze. Breathing were very difficult or maybe I’m just an amateur .

Arrived finishing line at 1h 12min bad timing. No improvement even though I’m running a shorter route. Sigh.

Lesson learned: downhill != fun/relax/speed but control step speed and breathing.
uphill != slowdown/walk but keep same step speed as flat ground.

I was SS in this run. Heheh SS means sad but satisfied NOT syiok sendiri. Why?
Sad – I was not qualified for the medal.
Satisfied – I did not stop a bit despite the steep slopes!

Hew came in slightly later than me at 1h 25min+ who claim that he walked the race. Not a bad time.

After the race, it took us like 1.5h before we found each other. We did mentioned a meet up point but unfortunately both of us did not end up the seat to wait. Later that we know, we were actually at the same area looking at the same place but overlooking each other.

I just can’t understand why they don’t understand what’s the use of a rubbish bin?

I was worried after 1h of waiting. I actually should be worried because there were an unfortunate incident happened reported today in NST during the day of race. We don’t really look very tired though! Heheh notice I’ve got a hair cut again before a race . Helmut say it increase aerodynamic movement. We had a hearty meal with our colleagues after the race at Klang for Bak Kut Teh. Yum Yum!

I think it’s possible to beat the King of the Road title in 50min. I’ll be stronger and sure to come back to challenge it again!

Hai Ung Seafood Restaurant @ Kuala Selangor

The last time that we really hunt and ate some good seafood was during our Pangkor Island trip. The Pangkor Island post was suppose to be our grand post when we started out this blog but because it is quite lengthy so we were too lazy to blog about up till now…

We actually have a lot of backdated post queuing : Pei Pei’s Wedding, Melaka Trip, and lot and lots of food reviews…

Ok, back to the post, I’m starting to be in my long gas mode again…

Kuala Selangor was known for its fresh and cheap seafood. There were a number of seafood restaurant by the riverside that we were so confused as to where to go to.

We follow our instinct and ended up with this:

Hai Ung Seafood Restaurant. We chose this because it was the only that doesn’t look so commercialized.

The waitress or maybe the owner were very nice to us. We are no expert in seafood so we asked her to recommend us the the dishes:

We thought we ordered too little for 2 but when the dish came… No wonder the waitress said it is going to be enough.

1. Butter fried ‘Lai Liu Ha’ (Mantis prawn), I always thought it sounded like a urinating prawn. The taste was just nice and was extremely crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside.

2. Thorn spiky shell (siput duri). I’m not sure if I’ve named it correctly. Adrienne call it helicopter shell seafood. A very simple dish. Just steam it. Maybe I can DIY.. hehe

The special thing here though is the sauce. Some sour-ish, a lil spicy sauce with some garlic and onion in it.

You don’t see much flesh right… It is all inside.

This is how you dig it up.

You have to eat it with the sauce as it’s bring out the freshness of it. Not too fishy taste even though it was steamed.

3. Last but not least crab is the must have dish for both the crab meat lover!
‘Kam Heong’ Crab (3 crabs here):

We actually asked for only 2 person but it turns out to be more than 3 person share. We were given 3 FAT and HUMONGOUS crab! There were lots of meat and definitely a crab that workout a lot because it have very chewy meat.

It was finger licking good! Haha it ended up quite messy…

It was really very hearty meal and with each a big coconut, yum yum… We spent hours finishing up the dishes but it’s all worth it.

I was actually wondering why the fireflies becoming extinct before this but I think I know why…

I seriously didn’t know where the water will channeled to.

The total bill was summed up to RM70 and the most expensive dish was the crab. The rest of the dishes were like less than RM 10 and the crab was about RM15 with the coconut RM8 each. If I’m not mistaken, the thorny snail was the cheapest dish of all!

On top of the hearty meal, you could also get a very good view and scenery right on top of the riverside. You should go there at 4pm –7pm timing.

Trust me beautiful sunset! We arrived a little late. What do you think?

The next table noticed us using the camera timer. Well it was quite obvious with a dozen times of timer.

They were kind enough to offer us some help. It did looked nicer right?

It was worth the hunt. We were satisfied with the food plus we got a seat next to the river. Recommended to you all and you might even want to try the restaurant around the area.

How to get there? From KL direction, as soon as you entered Kuala Selangor, look out for a long and big bridge across the Kuala Selangor river. As soon as you travelled across the river, turn left and turn right, it might look like a very small and narrow road with palm tree on both side.

You will soon reach a market. You could use the Restaurant Seafood Kuala Selangor sign from then on. Maybe you will get a better picture with Google Map.

Bluetooth Blues

I know 2 consecutive nibble tech is boring but I’ve got to put down what had happened to my headset yesterday!

i.Tech i.VoicePro was my ideal headset because PW will not know where I am. Even if I ever go to clubbing because only my voice will be heard, all clubbing noise will be cut.

But yesterday the headset:

What happened was i.VoicePro that I bought was broken after usage of less than 1 day… So sad~ The headset mic does not work.

This is what happened to me yesterday:
Me with the headset and Bro using his phone.
Me: “Hello!”
Bro: “Hello”
Me: “Can open the gate for me?”
Bro: “Har?”
Me: “Hey don’t play play a, open the gate!!!”
Bro: “Har?” and slammed the phone…
Me: Called again..
Same thing!! My bro said that he can’t hear a thing from my side, total silent…

I spent hours analyzing what’s the problem and made countless trial to PW. Annoyed, she suggested to off the “killer noise” function and it works. My conclusion on the problem is either the second mic does not work or the software is not functioning properly.

So happen next day is my appointment for my jaw at the TM clinic at UH. I was kept waiting for some time and ended up too late to make it for second half of work so instead I head to Lowyat to settle this issue.

This is what happened at the service centre:
1. The serviceman flashed new software to the headset. He said it should be working now but I tried and nothing.

2. The serviceman gave me a new set. Called my aunt she said working.

3. I was happy and walked off. Called PW to try one last time whether the ‘killer noise’ function work. PW say not working.

4. Head back and ask about it. The serviceman told me that for the i.VoicePro, most of it have the same problem. This is due to the software problem that does not work properly with the mic. Knowing that he flashed a software that permanently disables the ‘killer noise’ function. So far they do not have the solution yet! HE DID NOT TELL ME THAT!!!

5. I asked him why the heck I pay extra for the function when i don’t have the function? He referred me to the PIC that sold me the set.

6. After long discussion with the boss, Don (Heheh I got her name) told me that she can replace another headset and return the extra that I had paid.

7. I chose the second best option that I had tried on the other day. Jabra BT2050 at the price of RM120 which was RM8 lesser after negotiating the price. Don was very sorry. I was telling Don, if you had told me about the problem I wouldn’t had buy it and get angry and no trouble on both side.

My advice:
DON’T BUY i.VoicePro!!!

I don’t know if this applies to i.VoicePro only or not because there were quite alot of i.Tech headset returned for warranty when I was waiting for them to repair mine. Well that was also the other reason why I took Jabra which was NOT i.Tech.

Overall, MCM service was alright. At least I get my result and are able to return the extra in cash so I was quite happy with Don’s service.

PW’s pocket is now heavier compare to Sunday’s…

Bluetooth Headset Hunt + Review

A special dedication to PW.

It’s been a few months that I have been driving illegally and dangerously, talking on the phone with one hand while driving a manual car! My wired headset that comes with my phone went MIA, result of transferring the headset around different cars.

Beacuse of that I was unhappy because I was driving dangerously and was happy because I get to buy a new headset . The lost headset was in a extremely bad shape with the connector and the headspeaker piece super glued many times.

I’ve made up my mind to buy a Bluetooth headset like years before I lost my wired headset. Why Bluetooth?

The phone have to be taken out at least once to be attached	The phone can stay in your bag or pocket
End up in a tangled mess	No wire so just hook on to ear
Restricted movement when turning left and right	Just hook On
Ugly with wire dangling	told you to JUST HOOK ON EAR!!!

Buying anything for me is always not easy for me so the battle of research and analysis start with: Clip on or ear hook?
FYI, the picture above is 2 awarded headset by i.Tech Clip II mini and i.VoicePro with Stuff Readers Choise Winner 2007 and Gold award by HWM respectively.

It is not easy to research on headset performance online so we head on to Lowyat Plaza for Bluetooth headset hunt to check test out the performance of the headset.

Shopping at Lowyat is like looking for a needle in sea for the cheapest store. We came to a shop that offers RM30 cheaper in any range of bluetooth headset compare to other store. It is around the back quiet area (Lot-1-TC26-28).

At first we were thinking whether they are selling ‘water’ goods but no. Overlooked the name 'Mobile Concept (M) Sdn Bhd’, which was the wholesale and main distributor for bluetooth headset! Hahaha…

The girl at the shop were very kind and cute. She was really patient with us. You’ll know why…

We ask for sample and tryouts on various headset to test which will perform the best. Well, mostly tested was i.Tech bluetooth headset as they are no 1 best selling headset in HK, Malaysia and Singapore.

Most headset function are almost the same so design is the deciding factor. Unless they have some killer function like quality sound and powerful noise cancelation capability.

Note: The below comparison is subjected to the battery condition as well as considering the fact that it is a sample unit.

First, we tried i.Tech i.Oval 303.

1. Look: Look sleek, small and lightweight. 4/5
2. Speaker: The speaker sound were good. 3/5
3. Mic: The microphone is moderately good. 3/5
4. Price: RM79.90 Good price. 5/5

Next, Jabra BT2050. We got to try out some other brands to make some comparison.

1. Look: Look fat, small and lightweight. 4/5
2. Speaker: It is the best in its range compared to i.Air 301 and i.Oval. 4/5
3. Mic: The microphone is moderately good. 3/5
4. Price: RM129.90 Slightly on high for this range model. 3/5
Not sure if can play MP3.

Next, i.Tech i.Air 301.

1. Look: Look sleek, big and moderately weight. 3/5
2. Speaker: The speaker sound were full of noise. 2/5
3. Mic: PW said she could not stand the outcome of my voice on this. 2/5
4. Price: RM89.90 Moderately priced. 4/5
Not sure if can play MP3.

Lastly, i.Tech i.VoicePro. The most expensive one because it comes with a ‘Kill Noise’. How? There is 2 mic on this phone one is responsible to take in the voice and the other with the surrounding noise. (Voice mix with noise) – surrounding noise = Voice only.

1. Look: Look fat, big, ugly and moderately weight. 2/5
2. Speaker: It was excellent voice and very little noise. I’m not sure if the noise cancellation have any effect on this. 5/5
3. Mic: Excellent!!! No noise can be heard, ONLY YOUR VOICE!!! 5/5 <— No one will know where you are!
4. Price: RM190.00 Quite Expensive. 2/5
Disadvantage: you can’t listen to MP3 using this only for call purpose.

The ultimate decision rest with PW as she always get frustrated when talking on phone with me because:
1. I can’t hear her well with my K810-too-soft-speaker with me saying “har?” repeatedly.
2. She can’t really hear me when I’m driving in my car wind howling sound (Sunny boy is old). or with my radio on.

After a very long thought and testing, we decided to get the most expensive one (i.Tech proudest product):

I NEED KEY!

Been busy with work and are back as per requested by HC’s “update… update… update”.

Actually I’ve had a very rough week. My body decided to lock up my jaw and throw the key out the window. Must be because of the increasing crime rate around my neighborhood. Need to protect my gold tooth.. hehe..

Actually the lock jaw happened when I was taking a humongous bite on a ‘Heong Peng’. After that bite, I can’t open my mouth to chew. I suck at the piece for at least 10 min before I can swallow it.

This had happened before but it lasted maybe 5-10min only. This time it lasted till now (approximately 2 weeks). This time really ‘jia lat’ lo. I desperately need a key to unlock my jaw!!!

Cannot open mouth means:

No eating! No yawning! No Laughing! No Yelling! and even No Kissing!

This is serious stuff wei. According to research, I can die from malnourishment. (Wah~ so drama…)

I think my symptom could be Trismus. Taking the advise from the WWW, head to a dental clinic for check up. The dentist only took a 10 min look and charged me RM30 for a letter that refer me to University Hospital (UH) dentist for further check up. ‘Jia Lat’ again!

Maybe I shouldn’t calculate on the RM30 too much, the letter referred me direct to the dean/supervisor of the dentist Bilik Rawatan Utama (BRU). At least some experience doctor attended to me before passing it on to the Masters student.

They took X-ray of my teeth and jaw. And my teeth turns out to be:

WTH I have 37 teeth altogether!!! A normal teeth set have 32 teeth only! The four canine teeth illustrated on the x-ray above never erupted out of the gum. The wisdom teeth are also giving me problem and supposed to be extracted as well.

The main problem was my right jaw joint (circled in black).
The disc was dislocated to the front, therefore, giving me a restricted movement of my jaw to open not more than 25mm, 1.5 finger width.

Normal human can open their mouth over >35mm, usually 3 finger width. (PW tried and she can fit 4 fingers.. ) Why don’t you try and include the answer in the comment?

Now I have to follow strict rules that the mouth specialist gave me:
1. Go for strict soft food diet.
2. Use hot packs 5 times a day
3. Don’t yawn and don’t laugh <— WTH?! Everytime PW make me laugh, I have to hold on to my jaw so that it doesn’t just fell and hang around.

UH gave me a very good impression all round. All the consultation and x-ray only cost me RM5 and that is for registration. And the wisdom tooth extraction cost me only RM100 where private clinic might cost at least RM300 per wisdom tooth. On top of everything the Master student that consulted me is hot with B-square! (sorry PW, pulling my ears now~)

I am proud to say this remains one of the most defining moment of our blogging career <- (tak tau malu, not even 2 months blogging already calling it career. ) When we see the response and hits garnered to the post, our hidung, buntut all mengembang.

That was also our lucky break when Kenny Sia blog about some unfortunate naming for a Condom right after we posted that. We share our post there to “promote” our findings.

Imagine the joy that Catfish felt when he first found the topic. He put in so much effort perfecting the post with the extra link of Top 10 Unfortunate Naming. After he complete that post, immediately he IM me to read it. Never have I seen him so excited about blogging.

But what do you know, we found another copy of it, word for word right here.

Not even a single alterations. Same picture. Not even changing the smiley to suits his style which is plain and without personality.

Currently, Catfish and myself feels our excitement, joy and pride slowly dissolving to nothing but anger.

We do not mind if you take our topic and blog about it like Vkashin or others. As long as you insert your own opinion and if you are kind enough, give some credit to your source.

I got no time to browse through his blog but by going thorough his first page only, there is only one conclusion. That guy cannot write to safe his life.

All his post consist only short rambling which provide absolutely no added value at all to its reader. Or not it’s just song lyrics which he did not provide any hint on how it relates to him. What’s the point then?

Is that guy incapable of expressing anything at all in his own word? Why must it be copied from somewhere or some songs?

I am not sure I am being mean or maybe not mean enough but word by word plagiarism is something I hate and only will be attempts by stupid people. He is indirectly insulting our intelligence by thinking it won’t be discover.

In a way, I would like to see him retaliate to this post rather than delete his post. This would be interesting. But don’t hold your breath. Judging by his post, he could be thick face enough to just ignore all this.

And guess what? He was born in the year of snake.. Sneaky bastard.

I’ve done it! KL Marathon Yataa!

YES I’ve done 21km, the longest distance ever achieved!

I was so excited on the night before the race till I only got 4 hours sleep (intended for 7h sleep at least). I set my alarm to go off at 3.30am but I jumped up earlier at 3am (I hate it when you get all excited like this!).

The organizer was kind enough to arrange for a special shutter bus which operates from 3am onwards, from various pick up points. 2 of my colleagues and I took the Bkt Jalil one at 5am.

I really did pack light, evidence.

Our bus came on time, however, Axiao complained that their bus only came 45min later. The bus journey was so smooth that we got there a little too very early.

We have plenty of time to get our bags checked in and clear our bladders. We even have time to do a 2 round the field jog warm up.

While lining up at the starting line, I suddenly the urge to go to the toilet again, the excitement must be getting my nerves. However, looking behind me were about 1500 people so I decided to just go with a full tank. The same thing happened to me during the towerthon though.

Upon reaching the first water station which was about 10min away only, only 2 toilet available but later came to realize that the trees along the road are also toilets for the guys (more than 6 trees available).

The race started with a slight drizzle which was quite refreshing which made running smooth and breezed. I broke my record for a 10km stretch at under 1h which I usually take 1h 10min on flat ground.

An ~5m distance shower was provided at around Hang Tuah station. I’m just wondering who the hell needs a shower that will only add weight to their run and might cause blister easily with the wet shoes. In my opinion, it is a waste of water with only 1/50 using it. They could have installed a mist shower like those you find in mamak fan instead.

The route got tougher as we reached the first flyover from MAA turning into Jln Istana. The stretch from Jln Istana –> Jln Parliament was all steep + another flyover. My legs lack of practice on slopes gave way before the flyover which was 3/4 away from the finish line.

Once I’ve reached the last 3km point, I pushed myself to finish as my target time is about up (2.5h). I was smiling when I saw the clock at the finishing line printing 2h 30min 10s!

I have finished the race in:

I was so thirsty and tired after the finishing line that I sort of made a quick walk to grab for some isotonic drink and some banana. I met my colleagues around the 100plus corner and asked to get them all a yellow stick each:

Karen was together with her bf running 10km, aw such a sweet couple. Eh… no no I was suppose to say: spot spiderman!
It is Mawar Sahlan again! Myave you guess that he is young but no he is 69 years old uncle! He has been running with Spiderman suit at run quite a number of marathon races. This time he participated the 10km run. Read more at NST.

The race indeed have 12,000 participant.

The queue to baggage collection was terribly long like 3 long python attacking one booth. Many people utilized the bag provided by the organizer so it was difficult to spot the owner’s bag. I was smart to bring a different bag …

Finisher medal marks me completing the half marathon:

There is one thing that I didn’t like about the race is that the medal should be given on the spot when you pass the finisher line instead of the long queue at the end. Well maybe they have their reason to get their chip back but some people get to keep theirs… I wonder if it works.

I met a few guys while lining up for the bag and talk for a bit about marathon. They told me that I had used the wrong shoe for marathon. I’ve used a cross-training shoe Nike Air Max 180.

Which will lead to:

Actually, there were a few major complains from the participant includes:
1. Drink station dried up before race finish. Axiao experienced this.
2. Local winner were not crowned local champion, …

This is my first Marathon and the experience was fantastic beside the medal distribution method. Maybe to avoid from the mentioned complain is to avoid running first and the last.

After the race, I had a feeling that I can achieve anything. Maybe next I shall go for a try for something more extreme like bungy jumping at sunway.

The thought came crashing when my father said 2h 30min? If you don’t finish within 2h 30min then you are not a marathon runner. He say his 21km time was 1h 45min. I was like erm… so spoil… Heheh but it’s alright! I shall beat that and aim for a 42km as well…

Oh yea… I’ve almost forgot that Hew and me did signed up for the King of the Road race. 11km for 50min qualifying time. That’s a target to beat!
Notice that both of us are signing up for the T-Shirt. The package comes with 2 x RM50 voucher to be used for purchase of shoe worth more than RM250 (one voucher per shoe). I think I’m making use of it to get a correct shoe at least!

KL Marathon: Getting Pumped Up!

Yippie! Choong Hoe have conquered 21km at KL Marathon!

I shall talked about today’s event later… I’m too tired and exhausted to blog all in one… Well partially because I don’t have the photos. Hehehe the runner’s guide book told us to pack light… So I shall talk about the registration day instead -->

T-1 (a day before the race)

Dataran Medeka was rather convenient for me as I’ll only need to hop on to STAR LRT and get to Masjid Jamek, 3min walk away. Tsen and I were there first.

We received phone call from the rest of my colleagues when we are not far from Masjid Jamek saying that their car robbed in Titiwangsa park and they are at the police station. 2 person lost a phone and couch wallet each worth up to RM1000.

Advise: Please be careful when you are to park your car at any parks. If possible, use plastic bags to keep valuable in your pockets and pack light… Remember…

As soon as Tsen and I arrived at the field, we were greeted warmly by the officials there who directed us to our respective booth. I would say it was quite organized, trust me big sign boards everywhere:
Well I guess that got a pretty big field anyway…

The officials at the counter were nice and friendly. I was pretty satisfied with their service, the collection process took about 3min each (pretty fast I would say). I’m not sure about the day before as it was raining and were suffering from some computer glitch.

I like the bag that were given to us, it’s huge…

RapidKL special shutter bus were also available for the price of RM7 which includes one day pass on all public transport (STAR, PUTRA and RAPIDKL).

This make it convenient for those that are running full and half marathon which starts at 5am and 6am respectively. No public transport are available at that time + all the roadblocks.

Breathe Right were taking advantage of the event to promote their product. I would say it do work for me when I’m suffering from running nose as I do have it quite often. And yes it is not only to solve snoring problem.

100 plus set up some rock climbing and basketball activity booth. Is the rock climbing practical? Will the participant try it out? I don’t think so… Who would want to hurt themselves before the race?

Hew and me were so hyped up with the KL marathon that we end up joining for the Shah Alam Adidas King of Road Marathon on the spot. Despite the orange color, the shirt is of good quality. RM30 is quite worth it!

Both of us joined the 11km race. Why not 22km? The qualifying time 11km is 50min which is quite a challenge for both of us. As you can see my training time for 11km is more than 1h.

Lots of toilet are provided. Unlike Towerthon with only 4 provided (I think), the queue was so damn long till I was forced to run with a full tank.

The toilets are decent. I was fascinated by the manual pump (observe the 2 round black rubber on the floor of the toilet. One for the flush and one for the tap.

Helmut and me give it a go at the toilets and came out asking each other did we snap the same thing and we laughed about it:

Action Pack Day 3: Dealing with Fire.

To finally end our anniversary day, we decided to have something very dangerous.

Deng~ Deng~ Deng~

Something that can burn your pants when you lie (As the saying goes: Liar, Liar pants on fire) or scald your skin till you look like Patrick from Spongebob Square Pants cause you get all pink.

We are having… (cue drum roll)

Steamboat + BBQ … (no roll eye emoticons with yahoo messenger one)

Hehe.. Don’t roll your eyes.. It is very dangerous, we could pour hot boiling water to all patrons if we decided to run amok or potentially burn the place down with our stove.

Oh wait, that can’t happen either cause we are using electronic stove. But never mind, I can go burning things as far as the electrical cord allow.

Ok ok… enough crapping.. Back to official business..

We found ‘Fireman’ in the curve. We actually wanted to try the Ayam Penyet restaurant which is next door but that place is always full.

Then we saw on the chalkboard there:

BBQ + Steamboat promotion for only RM19.90… Wee~ Let’s try.

As you can see from the stove picture above, this is like an alternative to the famous Thai Bar-B-Q Plaza. Here they use the same idea but improvise their concept to a more Malaysian-ize way of eating.

First it is HALAL! wee~ rejoice.

So instead of Pork Lard in BBQ Plaza, they use Chicken skin to oil the grill.

Erm, not effective at all I must say.The purpose to oil the pan is to prevent the food from sticking to the grill but the chicken skin is sticking all over the grill. (no sweat emoticons either.. hmm..)

Then we come to the sauces. Looks similar to BBQ Plaza also. With the brown sauce, garlic, chopped chili and lime. The one in the bowl tasted like peanut sauce. On the saucer is the sweet and chili sauce.

In BBQ plaza, the correct way to eat is to mix up all the ingredient in the brown sauce. But we are confuse as to which sauce we need to add the ingredient since we have 2 brown sauce and both tasted different. So we ask the waiter on what’s the best way to deal with this, they just shrugged and mumbled up to us. (hmm.. does this sound like they are copying just for he sake of copying)

Next up is the menu. Click for closer inspection.

Here the difference is they have marinated meat.

This is our first round. We proceed to order another 3 rounds of black peppered lamb, prawn, Chicken Turmeric and Chicken Nam Yee. Nice~

One tip: Look at the dessert part. CINCAU! The kiam siap part of me is skipping cause we can now even save on drinks. Good thing is free flow.. wuahahahha…

One thing I like about this place is their grill/steamboat pan. The steamboat part is actually wide enough to keep us satisfied with the volume of soup and also most importantly, it can fit a soup spoon for easy scooping.

Oh, they have tom yam soup base as well for an additional of RM5.00. We didn’t take it this time because the chicken soup comes for free.. and it tasted very good actually.

All in all, we enjoyed the experience. Good deal with the promotion.

Action Pack Day 2 : Battle of the Movie

Let the battle continues…

It had been a very busy and tiring month of May with all weekends occupied. We had not much time to go for any outings ourselves. Even for our regular movies.

We have missed out quite a few movies since the Monster Vs Aliens, Confession of Shopaholic and Paul Blart: Mall Cop (Hahah I always call it Pall Mall by mistake. Free branding for BAT. ).

To make up for it, we manage to cram all the latest must watch movie in 2 weeks.

It started of with X-MEN origins: Wolverine, watched it in Midvalley since most of the other cinema already stop screening.

Wolverine was an enjoyable movie but the story line is quite thin… The actions alone was worth watching!

PW was very eager to watch Night at the Museum 2: Battle of the Smithsonian ever since our movie spree started again but due to X-MEN movie was phasing out so… As promised, the next show:

For those who had watched the first one, you would tend to expect more from it. Can’t help it as certain element of surprise and shock factor was already gone.

The humor is still as good. The best move of the director was to focused more on the new character by locking the previous movie’s character up. Hehehe… I love the Abraham Lincoln and ‘The Thinker’. This movie is recommended for those who are looking for a good laugh!

To enjoy the movie more, my advice is to skip the trailer. It seems the best part are already captured there.

Next up was my pick –> Star Trek. It is booked in my must watch list since I watched the trailer last year in cinema. The character’s appearance is 10 times better than the old series make up.

I must say this is a must watch movie! You’ll have to watch it to feel the actions. Initially PW was a bit reluctant stating reason that she didn’t know any background story. Her comment after the movie: “ Live Long and Prosper” V(-.-)

Well, I know I’m out of topic… (sorry for my ‘long gas’ again)…

As for the action pack day, of course we will opt for an action pack movie. The only one left in our to watch list was Terminator Salvation.

As soon as we got to Cathay ticket counter after the Esprit warehouse, we were thinking that the hope is slim of getting any movie ticket. The queue length was from the counter till the wall behind even with 80% of the counters open!!!

While queuing up, I came up with a bizarre idea of opting for Cathay Platinum movie suite. The idea was terminated after I got the ticket price which was RM40 per person.

Fortunately, despite the queue volume, we still get our ticket.

Terminator Salvation is a sequel to the Terminator 3: Judgement day. In my opinion, the movie is over rated by the reviews that I had read in the newspapers. There were no good story line or plot, everything was so predictable. PW was half the time confused . The most surprised part was special appearance of Arnold Schwarzenegger with no more than 10 min.

The idea of going for a movie at Cathay’s Platinum Movie Suite is still fresh so I got back and researched more on it. Apparently, it have less seats as opposed to GSC gold class with only 12 pair of seats in a room (more private).

From the Cathay cinema website, I found that Monday – Wednesday is RM25 per person which is quite a reasonable price for the luxury. Beside this, there is also a XBox gaming station, Ogawa massage chair and also WIFI available in the movie lounge. How cool is that?

The only drawback: no blanket and pillow provided, you’ll need to rent it…

Well, I will give it a try when there is a movie worth watching in Platinum Class. Maybe Transformer…

Action Pack Day : Battle 1

I know! I know! We are skipping a day or two with blogging.

My parents are back from Brunei for holidays. I’ve got to spend some time with them.

Miss me?

14th June is our anniversary day. Confused with all the anniversary date? Hahaha.. We made a promise to celebrate on every 14th of the month to keep our relationship fresh and eventful… Something simple will do, an outing or just a dinner… As long as we are spending some time together, we are happy.

So on the 14th Sunday, our day was spent in The Curve and somehow, our activities tends to connect to some sort of adventure or require some physical aggressiveness.

First event: We heard about the Esprit Warehouse sales from my colleagues during the weekdays so we thought of checking it out. The sales was from 11-14 June 2009 but we were only too lazy to go and procrastinate until the very last day .

The sales condition there was like a pasar malam with piles of clothes everywhere with prices and discount posters all over the place. The crowd there was okay, not as bad as the Zara or FJ Benjamin warehouse sale recently. At least you can still stand and choose without being push or elbow by someone.

From the picture below it looks like there are lots of clothes to choose from but in reality much to our disappointment, most of the racks are just repetitive. Is this because we were there on the last day so only limited stocks are left? Please enlighten me.

After one or 2 piles, PW got fed up and decided to employ the luck strategy. She just randomly stick her hand in every pile and see if she can find any hidden treasure. (PW: I found one gorgeous jacket that is formal enough to be worn to work but also suitable for casual outing. It was one size too big.. )

In the place, there is only 2 fitting rooms available and the queue got longer and fatter like it has taken “Appeton Weight Gain”.

However, they are kind enough to provide mirrors around the place. This is good, I found a shirt I like and decided to just try it out with the mirrors.

But I had a hard time getting a fair view of the mirror. Hmmph~ girls and aunties kept hogging the mirror. They seem to hover around pretending there is no queue. PW mention that it was caused I’m a guy and girls will tend to bully the guy a bit in this situation. This is after all their territory.

The final stage of the war was continues with the paying queue to get to the spartan at the cashier:

In 2 hours, mission completed with total damage of RM256 (with 25% off all items + additional 10% with HSBC credit card) for 7 items gathered.

I remember having a conversation with my housemate (YJ) about this up and coming technology back in University some 3-4 years ago. Where games actually uses human body movement as controller. When Wii was released, I thought that was it… but no I was wrong!

Previously, Microsoft Xbox sales was greatly affected by Wii’s existence. Sony Playstation wasn’t too good either at that time.

It got worst during the HD optical disc war! Remember Sony Blu-Ray won? “Microsoft ceased production of Xbox 360 HD DVD players while…” by Wikipedia. Terrible and tragic incident for Microsoft…

For Microsoft, it’s worry no more with Project Natal!!!

Sony Playstation you can get ready to pack your bag if you don’t have something up your sleeves soon. Or else where will you stand when this is released?

No controller, no string attached… Just you:

BBQ Chicken @ 1U

Truth to be told, we skipped this place the first time we were food hunting in 1U. We opted for the Lok Lok promotion instead.

This is because PW don’t feel like having BBQ and I am not interested with Chicken.

But we were wrong. The name of the shop is misleading.

It’s not BBQ in bar-be-que but BBQ as in (Best of the Best Quality)…

BBQ Chicken is actually Korea’s No. 1 BBQ Chicken Restaurant venturing into Malaysia.

Their main selling point is the fact that they use 100% Olive Oil for cooking and chicken/meat used are never frozen but only chilled.

What does it mean? Olive oil = healthy, chilled = fresh and well marinated!

Ever wonder what’s the benefit of Olive Oil, BBQ Chicken have this on every dining seat:

Here we shun a bit of our blogger role where we should take on more variety of food to show case the whole menu.

Both of us are particularly attracted to the charbroiled chickens, so I ordered Korean Charbroiled (cost RM17.90):

I love it! This dish uses my favorite part of the chicken, the tender leg meat. If you haven’t noticed, the amount of oil used was at minimal. Well marinated and I could taste the sauce till the core. Yum~

PW ordered, Korean Charbroiled sandwich (cost RM18.90):

PW requested to change one of the side dish from mashed potato to salad instead. So double salad. The meat goes well with the sandwich bread too!

Suprisingly, the portion of meat given was equal. So it’s like paying an additional of RM1 for the bread, tomato slices and onions. Why not if you are a big eater?

The ambience:
I’m sure the guy was thinking ‘sam pat’-nyer this 2 people. Hahah

We were taking too much photos partly because I was trying out the prosumer camera that I got from Sony Staff Clearance Sales. It makes me look so pro but then in a fast food restaurant? LOL

The waitress at the restaurant were very nice and patient. We took ages to make our order… Hahaha As usual indecisive but they give suggestion nicely and not pushy at all. You know how sometimes how pushy some waitress are. Hate that!

The shop have actually more varieties of healthy and tasty Chicken meals in different cooking style. You’ll be surprise on how many ways they can fry a chicken.

I discover that people are travelling a lot these days. Must be due to the cheap air fare promotion by MAS and Air Asia.

Swine Flu? A(H1N1) Flu? What Flu?

Catfish and I almost booked a flight to Vietnam or Bangkok. But plan fail..

Never mind, next time then..

Anyway in this season of travel, I’m sure a lot of people are doing some research or maybe learning a few of the destination language.

So have you found a website containing all the information you want but in foreign language? What’s the tool you use to translate?

I was playing around with Babel fish the other day. I wanted to test it’s effectiveness and accuracy.

Let’s try with the most important phrase during travelling especially for the ladies.

“How much?”

Guys might find it useful too. You can sneak behind your girlfriend and test the waters before deciding to bring her to the shop or lead her to another street.

So here goes..

Step 1 : English to Japanese. OK.

Step 2: To test it’s effectiveness, I copied the answer given and translate it to English.

Which Rank is not How much!!

Step 3: To test it’s accuracy, I put “Which Rank” for translation.

To which I got the answer Smell Which?

I wonder if the Japanese will understand me when I show them Which Rank? or Smell which?

Let’s say in a situation of a bachelor looking for partners in Japan:

Hot Bachelor A: (thinking) I wonder how much is her? Let me show her my copied phrase from Babel Fish.

*Proceed to show どの位か。

Kawaai Girl B: F!!

Hot Bachelor A: ??? Maybe she didn’t get me.

Happy Birthday Aunt!

It’s always very difficult to choose a healthy eating place. My aunt is always health conscious and my grandma are not suppose to eat oily or sweet stuff (even though she cheats sometime ).

Well guess what, the boss told them that the dishes were all cooked with NO preservative and artificial food flavoring, in addition to that all dishes are cook with tea leaves for extra taste and gimmick I must say..

Look at her smile of satisfaction (partially because I paid for the meal ):

Did you ever have problems picking your dishes when you get into a restaurant? (We avoided that but instead we had trouble picking our table. We moved 3 times around the restaurant. In our defense, it was all for the comfort of grandma.. =p)

Hahaha… we skipped that part and go on straight to order the set menu. The Only tea recipe Halal Bak Kut Teh in Malaysia set menu. <—told ya dishes will be cooked with some tea leaves.

Set Menu for 3 – 4 person Includes:

1. Halal and a complete bak kut teh set: Bak Kut Teh (chicken) + dough stick + Tau Pok

The Bak Kut teh closer look (spot the tea leaf):
The combination smell of the herbs and tea leaves are so unique. The soup shockingly not oily at all, so ‘qing’/jernih and so full of flavor.

2. 3 choices of tea meal, there is a range choices from tau fu, egg, seafood and vegetables. We chose ( I can’t remember the name of the dishes though):

Squid with four angled bean in belacan

Stir Fried vege 4 in 1 with minced pickled and tea

Thai style crispy tau fu. I've got to say this is one of the best dish of the night!

3. Green Tea Rice (notice that the rice is a little brownish, it’s because of the tea)

4. Dessert Almond Beancurd in Black Tea

This is the most refreshing dessert I had ever had! For almond flavored food hater, this beancurd is totally edible. (Confirmed by PW)

5. Puer Tea – I’m not a tea expert but I think they are serving the tea in a proper manner. One teapot for holding tea leaves to be soaked with water, then pouring the tea to another teapot for consumption. This is to prevent the tea from being too concentrated.

My brother turn up late for the dinner, giving excuses such as traffic jam… He said we usually follow the Malaysian time (i.e. +30min). However, we arrived at 8pm sharp. So as punishment, we will post this picture of him.

My grandma kept stopping my aunt from eating up the dishes without leaving some for him. I think my aunt just can’t resist good food. In the end, grandma insist on ordering another dish for him, drunken chicken:

It taste different from the usual drunken chicken outside but still taste good.

We ordered an additional dessert, dry tong yuen covered with peanut:

The total bill was: RM104.25 (5 person sharing)

The dishes are not too sweet, not too salty and not too plain, just the right taste. All dishes use minimal oil. It was a very healthy dinner. We will go back again to have more. It is a double thumbs up from me.

Sri Karak in PJ

I love love love durian!

Besides loving the fruits itself, I also love the fact that durian bring me lots of happy bonding moments with family and friend. Normally you won’t enjoy the fruit as much if you are eating it alone.

When I was young, when I see my dad coming out of the car with bags of durian, that is the cue for me and my brothers to scramble and get all the necessary equipment:

cloth

Then we will all sit together and “fight” for the durian.

Last Saturday after my medical check up in PJ, we decided to drop by Sri Karak. This is actually a branch of the famous Yik Kee Restraurant in Karak.

We ordered every durian flavored food they have on their menu. First of started with Durian Tart.

Durian Bomb.

Every bite will fill your mouth with durian paste.. Yummy!

McDurian.

Whipped cream with the durian paste wrapped in a thin layer of pancake I suppose.
Best eaten cold.

and finally Durian Cendol.

Best eaten cold also. The durian element here is actually the ice cream looking blob.

Oh, and we ordered some main dish. It was just meh~ Nothing interesting.

Their “recommended” Seafood Yee Mee was so fishy that I couldn’t finish it..

We snapped this photo which is actually their packaging box. It was printed a picture of the map to the shop in Karak.

All in all, the durian pastry/dessert tasted very good and I will definitely consider coming in again for a snack. Forget about having lunch or dinner here.

Sorry for the vulgar title here. I just can’t stand not posting about up.

This is one of the most unfortunate and hilarious name I ever come across. This could easily make it to the top 10 most unfortunate name.

Well I would say this definitely catches the attention of Hokkien community all around the world. Singaporean are twittering CIBAI to each other a lot last month.

Imagine some ‘ham sap’ man searching Cibai on the internet to fulfill his unstoppable lust but found this instead…. potong steam-nyer~

Mr. tech mode: Here are some explanation:

CIBAI is an acronym for Class Invariant By Abstract Interpretation.

To clarify things up Mr Brown has asked Microsoft regarding this matter. It is actually an academic research paper by researcher in the past, NOT a Microsoft product or application.

However, reading the abstract from the research paper, makes me rofl:

Abstract. We introduce Cibai a generic static analyzer based on abstract
interpretation for the modular analysis and verification of Java
classes. We present the abstract semantics and the underlying abstract
domain, a combination of an aliasing analysis and octagons. We discuss
some implementation issues, and we compare Cibai with similar tools,
showing how Cibai achieves a higher level of automation and precision
while having comparable performances.

I know I’m bad. I was curious after it caught my attention so I proceed to read the research paper.

I was amazed by this tool, bravo to them (you may skip this part if too technical) :

Cibai analyzed the 40 files of the library in 28.6 seconds, whereas ESC/Java took 50.2 seconds. Cibai was able to verify the library except for two assertions involving
non-octogonal arithmetic relations. ESC/Java 2 emitted 107 warnings, mainly
about null dereferences and out of bound array accesses.

I’m just imagining if this is really an application, how will they give title to the expert? MCCP Microsoft Certified CIBAI Programmer?

We were given 2 different tea cups… A macho looking trophy shaped tea cup for the guy while a short fat round flowery tea cup for the female.. This is what I call Gender Discrimination…

One for me… I got a slice of lime..

One for him… Look no lime..

We chose the Peppermint Tea because in the menu it mention that the tea will make us feel more refreshed. That is just what we need between a heavy meal and a midnight movie.

For those who likes a little bit of sweetness in their tea, we were also given syrup to be added in.

If peppermint is not your ‘cup of tea’ (pun intended.. :p). There are other selection of tea: Caffeine Tea, Non-Caffeine Tea, Fruity Tea, Flower Tea…

Valentine Day 2009 @ GSC Signature Gold Class

I must say this is one of the few unforgettable surprises that PW had gave me. Really credits to her research and well planned surprise.

This year’s valentine suppose to be just a dinner at the same old Putrajaya Mariott’s Tuscany.

A few days back, she mentioned that she bought morning tickets for Benjamin Buttons. She kept reminding me over and over again that the movie starts at 11am but somehow Saturday is just not the day to wake up early for both of us. Well mostly my fault

Luckily it’s just 1 minute late .. I was so ‘Kan Chiong’ squeezing our way to the upper floors to the signature premier but PW kept joking that she bought tickets to GOLD CLASS so she dragged me to the entrance and showed her tickets… I really thought she was joking! and I was like: No Way!!!

FYI: this is my first time at Gold Class!

Before I can finish my jaw dropping moments…

Before we can enjoy the lounge…

We were welcomed by the waiter at the food counter and told us that there is no need to rush since there is a 15 min lapse before the movie start.

PW ordered tapas. She said she read good reviews on it.

There was no one in the cinema when we got in. PW told me she booked the whole cinema for me, well I believed her in the beginning because nothing can be impossible at that moment. Us only:

Not too long before the movie starts the Tapas were served. It come in a set of 4 choices plus a drink (coffee or tea) at a price of not more than RM40. Its a bit challenging to eat in a dark cinema plus the fact that the table is small. It doesn’t really matter as the tapas were really good, especially the prawn and the eggplant.

Then only I realized that PW was actually joking about the “whole cinema booked” when a couple came in. Nevertheless, there were only 2 couple in the cinema. It was cool!

Benjamin Buttons movie was great even though it was a very long one! 2 thumbs up I would say… But of course nothing beats the company…

After the movie, we hanged around at the lounge.

Happy Dumpling Day 端午节

Have you guys eaten your zhong today? Every year by hook or by crook regardless of the busy schedule, my family will try to make some dumplings. So every year this time, I’ll definitely get to munch all these, yum yum slurp~:

Dumplings festival also known as Double Fifth Festival as it falls on the fifth day of the fifth month. What happened on that day? Hahah… This is what I remembered from my young time: (very vague, Don’t sue me for discrepancy)

It all started way back in one of the China Dynasty, I think it is the Zhou Dynasty. As usual in all story, we have the good guy and the bad guy. The smart scholar is the good guy but the king only listen to the bad guy. After countless “nyap,nyap,nyap” the King felt annoyed and throw him out of the palace. Finally, the unfortunate really has happened, the scholar blamed himself for the country invasion and try to cover it’s ka-cheng by jumping into a river full of piranha (<—heheh made it up) on the fifth day of the fifth month. The villagers there who admired and respected him, try to search for his body but their effort was futile. They came up with a funny idea by making dumplings to throw into the river to feed the fish so the scholar’s body will be left untouched. At the same time, the fierce looking dragon boat was made to scare fishes away from eating the body. ROar!

KL Tower Forest Towerthon Challenge 2009

Took place during 1st March 2009. If I’m not mistaken, I was informed by my colleague then followed by Su-Lyn. I was very keen to take up this challenge and joined my colleague’s team called “Esaibo” (found out on the day itself, weird name though).

Why PW join? : PW LOA during my practice –> find colleagues –> agreed –> join as well! Su-Lyn took part as well.

It’s been ages since I took part in any sports event. It makes my adrenaline pumping again when I’m at the Starting line.

Don’t worry if you are at the back of the line. We were all given a counter each to tie it up on our shoe. This will be use to record our time as soon as we step on the red mat. Thank God for that because without it we might ended up being as flat as a roti canai with all the kiasu-ness around.. ***

PW and me done loads of practices so the stairs was not really the big problem but we did not take other condition into account. It was like sauna as soon as we enter the stairs plus all the sweat smell and slimy trail from all those in front… YUCK~ The were some ventilation fan every 10-20 flights of stairs, those levels are like heaven! Cool breeze… (PW: also the 1km uphill dash to the KL Tower is not fun either.) ***

I hate this ‘6 floor to finish’… I hate it! HATE IT! StUPiD sign!!! (Notice it says 2008 – recycled –.-“) ***

At this point, you would think: dash up, finish it and get over with it! NO YOU ARE WRONG! GOTCHA!! It was a drinking station after 10+ flights of stairs… The sport officer said 2 more floors so I skipped the drink and continue to dash. What the HELL!! ANOTHER FREAKING DRINKING STATION. I confirmed twice or triple with the sport officer at this new refreshment station whether it is really 2 more floors. Well this time they are quite right, phew, lucky else I’ll faint from all dashing.

This is my team. Looked more like: “Neh tiring meh?” ***

I was surprised on how fast PW made it up. I’m so proud of her. First, the courage to take part. 2nd, for being so determined! Good job PW!! Here you go, you deserve this:

We spent about 1h enjoying the scenery up there and met up with few of our UNIM friends, wouldn’t thought of meeting them there. Pity for the foreigners who came by to visit KL tower during this time because the whole observation deck stinks! Well not to mention, queue up for the elevator. Imagine sweaty and smelly skin. YUCKS x 10~!

Everyone was happy with themselves but the stomach just can’t stop complaining. So we all eat our medal…

Mango Mania @ Bangsar

On Saturday, PW had a day out shopping at Bangsar with her girlfriends. You wouldn’t believe how girls shop~ . They can shop for hours and climb countless flights of stairs without any sign of exhaustion. If you ask them to go to exercise: “tired la” or “lazy la” or even better “boring”. Anyway, I’m the chauffer and hanger of the day for PW.

Finally when the shopping spree got fruitful and they had enough, we headed off for some refreshment at Mango Mania:

For mango and ice cream lover, this is a place to be. It is self explanatory:

The Yoghurt Ice Cream cost RM6.90 with additional cost for fruit topping such as mango, kiwi or strawberry cubes. The Mango Mania which is additional mango cubes cost RM8.90.

My aim is to quench thirst so I opt for something big, an Apple Galore. It consist of blended apple and Mango yoghurt. I have to say it is a healthy drink and thirst quenching. At least, it refreshed me from the role of the day.

It’s not complete without something more solid so I ordered a Mango Cheesecake. It turns out to be a disappointment. As you notice, the top layer is gelatin; it does not compliment well with the cheese layer. According to Pei Pei, the best part is the biscuit base. That says a lot isn’t?

Don’t they looked ‘Absolutely Refreshed’, Pei³(from left: Pei Pei, Pei Ying, Pei Wen)..

But truth to be told we were all actually sweating because the place is quite hot and stuffy. I understand that part of it is due to the hot sun but the air conditioning doesn’t seem to be providing any relieve at all.

We were having lunch 2 days ago at office Canteen. As usual, not much choice around the mixed rice corner so majority of us settled for the so called “special” corner, menu of the day: Wantan Mee. Some were chatting and some were busy trying to finish up their dishes in less than 30 min. Suddenly, Foo (aka Zhaun) shrieked:

“Oh my F***ing GOD!!! There is a WORM in my Wantan Mee!!!”

Foo had more than half of his share. Everyone was distracted from their busy eating and said “It’s not WORM it is a baby cockroach la…”. Shook Yee and me ended up snapping like paparazzi and my photos turns out as if the cockroach was diving for a swim :

After hard persuasion, Foo reluctantly brought it to Aunty to get a refund. Aunty was so scared and apologize tons of time and refunded. If we ever report this, canteen can get very serious actions which include change of canteen management.

Mr.Catfish and I were on the way to SS2 for a Korean dinner with a few of my high school best friends. We were already late for the 8pm appointment because Catfish was stuck in a meeting earlier. After picking me up, he was trying to think of the the fastest way to reach SS2 and he decided to use Seremban highway going into Federal Highway.

Along our journey there the road was initially very busy with cars zooming left right but right after we passed Nirvana Memorial Centre we realize the road become suspiciously quiet with the nearest car is some distance away. This continue for quite sometime and the other cars seem to be keeping a constant distance between us. Out of a sudden, at the bend turning into Desa Water park City, Sunny Boy swerve to the left.

I turn to look at Catfish expecting an explanation to his sudden movement and with his face white he said to me that from the rearview mirror he saw a pair of green eyes looking at us from the backseat. By that time both our hearts stop. He ask me to turn around, take a look and confirm what he saw. I suddenly thought of all the horror movie in the car where the ‘thing’ will jump on you the moment you turn back and look. So of course I refuse to do it and instead decided to use the camera since I already had it on my hand. Picture posted below. Please only scroll down if you are sure you can take it.**

Sigh, after the big scare and difficulty in getting a place to park Sunny Boy, we reach the Seo Gung Korean Restaurant to see this. Can’t blame them though, we are almost an hour late.

We ordered Dolsot Bibimbap which was quite good, haha maybe we are just hungry!!!

BBQ pork slice with spicy sauce. It was well marinated and the spicy sauce provided was excellent.

After dinner, we proceed to KTZ. Look at us studying the menu so intently while Catfish canwhoring there.

We ordered Tong Yuen which cost RM1.20 per piece and a Mango Loh Loh.

We are quite disappointed with Tong Yuen and Loh Loh after we have heard so much about their reputation.

It was indeed a fun and spooky evening. After so long of not seeing you girls, I miss everyone so much and can’t wait for the next meeting which is tomorrow. hehehehe…

Windows Vista Adobe Photoshop CS4 Problem

Sorry for another post on “nibbled tech” because today we came back very late for a celebration for PW’s good news and our 3rd year and 1 month anniversary dinner so a short post today:

My newly installed Adobe Photoshop CS4 on Windows Vista in my laptop, has been giving me scrambled / distorted pictures, like this:

It never happen on the Windows XP one. I was beginning to think if I had installed the wrong version 64 bit instead of the 32 bit.

I can’t do much photo editing when using only Picasa, telling myself what’s the use of my laptop if I were to blog on the move. So I went around googling for an answer, true enough it is a known issue.

Solution: Edit>Preferences>Performance, disable “OpenGL Drawing”

Reason why Windows XP was that the OpenGL Drawing was disabled by default but Vista is otherwise.

I just can’t stop bragging about how good a tool Windows Live Writer is; really credits and salute to Microsoft. In the beginning I was so fed up with the Blogger post writer interface, it really turns me off blogging but thanks to YJ for recommending me this.

Back to Kuantan: Day 2

While we were on the journey to Kuantan, Catfish was planning to finally start (it was suppose to start since April) his practice for the KL Marathon run. The plan was to jog around my neighborhood at 7am. Instead he got distracted by Counter Strike.

So Day 2 turns out to be another Makan Day! hehehe…

First stop: S Katong Curry Laksa.
This was recently introduced by my uncle so this is a first for me as well.

Don’t you think it looks exactly like how it was advertise in the signboard? This is the epitome of “What you see is What you get”. (Half an egg, 5 pieces of fishcake, one prawn,…).

I found this from Wikipedia though.

“Katong laksa is a variant of laksa lemak from the Katong area of Singapore. In Katong laksa, the noodles are normally cut up into smaller pieces so that the entire dish can be eaten with a spoon alone (that is, without chopsticks or a fork). Katong laksa is a strong contender for the heavily competed title of Singapore's national dish.”

The laksa I had was not cut into smaller pieces. If only they had, I would have given them a 100% rating.

For lunch, we had something healthier. Apple Salad by my mom. Simple dish but this is just what we need after days of eating such heavy meals.
This is a picture of Catfish getting distracted by Counter Strike. The night before he was playing till 4am and here he is again in the afternoon.

Before we leave Kuantan, we went for early dinner in ‘Astro’. hehe..

We ordered: “Zhu Kiok Chou”. Direct translation Pig’s Leg Vinegar.
“Hak Chiu Pai Kuat” = Pork’s Rib in Black Pepper Style.
“Lou Ngap” = Braised Duck. Actually I just learn from a Malay cooking show that Braise in Bahasa Melayu is Merendidih.. In my 11 years of studying BM, I never come across this word. This is the power of TV. I shall therefore encourage people to buy more Sony TV. (wuahaha.. hidden agenda here. Catfish and his colleague would understand)

We also have a vege dish and the soup was complimentary. According to Catfish, his favourite is the Braised Duck.

Well, my favourite is actually the “Zhou Kai” = Running Chicken.. my gosh..
Actually “Zhou Kai” = Chicken in Wine. While I was happily enjoying this dish. I realize my mom stop after one sip. When I ask her, her reply was so funny. She said this dish reminded her of her confinement time and it gives her the creep. Wuahahahah..
Cue music….*Ibu~ Ibu~ Engkaulah Ratu Hatiku~….
Oh, and Catfish discover hidden treasure in the toilet. hehehhe… Careful guys. We don’t want any accident to happen.

Trip Back to Kuantan

This week I send PW back to celebrate post-Mother day and her belated birthday. We started our journey back to Kuantan right after our work. Only arrived Kuantan at 12.30am. This is my second time travelling on Karak + East West Link Highway at night and I do not recommend this if you are not experience with the road, you will be driving in dark windy road. Poor Sunny boy is reaching it’s old ages, gets exhausted and heated up too quickly.

As usual, it’s always interesting when they come up with lots of makan places to go to. This time we ended up eating in a new place opposite the market with a Supermarket (the Store) in it.

Back in her Kindergarden days, this is the shop that PW’s family used to have their ko lo mee (Cheong Kee) everyday because her father loves it. She said it still tasted the same:

The Cheong Kee ko lo mee tasted very different from others. It taste more original (Cantonese: ‘cheng’), I like it though:

Later in the afternoon, we headed off for yum cha session at Phin Ju, Air Putih:

They sell a range of dim sum but what make them famous are the bestest ‘Wu Kok’ that I have ever eaten:

It is definitely the most meat filling ‘Wu Kok’ that I have ever eaten. Don’t you just feel like trying it? Yum YuuuUUMM slurp:

The day ended with a big dinner with her family and a stroll down the new East Cost Mall. I find Kuantan a very relaxing place to be in. This is the time that I get good rest from the exhausting and stressful working life. A trip to kuantan is like a trip to the beach for a relaxing holiday.

Midnight Project

Every 14th of the month is a time for celebration and this month my plan is to surprise Catfish with a simple DIY dessert. Inspired by a cooking game show, I plan to make the dessert called “Love at First Sight”

Definitely not easy to surprise him. It involves some wrestling. Have to ensure he doesn’t come out of the room. I practically move the whole clothing rack in front of the door to buy us some time in case he does come out. Whole night we were panicking at small sounds. Phew~

My partner in crime for this. Meet Catfish’s sister, Pui Yee

Step 1: Gather all the ingredient

250g Cooking Chocolate
2 Eggs
300g Marie Biscuit
Cocoa Powder
Some dried fruits if you fancy.

Step 2: Based on experience I know better than to melt the chocolate using direct heat. Instead melt the chocolate using boiling water to avoid burning the base. Slowly mix in the beaten eggs while stirring.

Step 3: Break the Marie biscuits into smaller pieces and throw it in the melted chocolate. Stir until all the Marie biscuits are fully coated with chocolate.

Step 4: Camwhore!! hehehe.. Just Kidding!

The real Step 4: Pour everything onto the aluminum foil. Doesn’t look too appetizing isn’t it? hehe.. Don’t worry, everything is still under control.

Step 5: Roll. Sueeze. Roll. ‘Kemek’. Roll. Squeeze. Roll. ‘Kemek’….. Try to make it as compact as possible but be careful to not make a hole in your ‘Love at First Sight’

Step 6: Wait for the roll to cool down first before leaving it overnight in the fridge. That is the cue to camwhore again.

Step 8: The next morning, after you remove the aluminum foil it could still be a little sticky. Sprinkle some cocoa powder on it and it will be fine. End product is suppose to be a heart shape. FAIL~

Actually did you realize that during the whole process we were standing on a chair? Go look again.. That is because we have an uninvited guest hiding in the corner. Say ”Hi Mr. Siu Keung~”. He must have think he stumble upon heaven because poor Mr. Siu Keung died of old age the next day. We were wondering why he didn’t move at all except for his antennae the whole night.

Finally, surprise Catfish in the morning before work. Yummy!

The whole process took only about an hour.. Fast right? So do try it out!! Tell me how it turns out.

Annoying SD card!!!

D*mn the SD card!! Kept giving me a write protected error when I tried to delete photos from it using a card reader (click to enlarge) :

The card lock was unlock. I figured must be the contact so I brush the contact pins with a sand paper. STILL NOT WORKING!!! Next suspicion maybe the lock mechanism contact is not very good. Next try used 3 layers of cello tape on top of the lock and hope that it will be pressed down it enters the SD reader slot, as below:

Yippie!! It worked!! I’m a genius!

Hahah then I realized this was a very normal problem occurred for SD card and the solution was all over the World Wide Web… sigh… What a disappointment…

Dim Sum Hunt on Mother’s Day

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!!!!!

1st Location: Din Tai Fung

Let’s see.. On the menu we have dumplings, xiu long pao, combo of dumplings + xiu long pao, la mian with dumplings (You get the picture). To give them credit, they have other dishes but not meeting the objective of the day which is Dim Sum!! Everyone on the table was sheepishly giving some eye signal to leave for another restaurant. After some wink wink we all sneaked out.

2nd Location: Canton-I

The menu looks a bit more promising with more choices and we know we made a right decision of changing location albeit the embarrassed moment earlier.

Lucky for them we were entertain by this open kitchen because the service was so SLOW~. It was like a game to catch the attention of a waiter.

When we finally got hold of the waiter, we ordered some Dim Sum, Carp Fishball Porridge, Chee Cheung Fun, and their famous ‘Char Siew Siew Yuk Wantan Mee’. When ordering it is frustrating that a quarter of the menu was not available or we have to wait at least 30 minutes for certain dishes.

Verdict:
Dim Sum and everything else was just Okay. Too pricey to enjoy more.
However, the ‘Char Siew Siew Yuk Wantan Mee’ was way fantastic. Totally recommended. Not much fat on the char siew and siew yuk, the mee was ‘boink boink’ and the black sauce has it’s own signature taste like no other. Look at the ‘fight’ and smiling faces.

For dessert, we have Koong Woh Tong Herbal Jelly.

Still feeling dissatisfied and craving for more Dim Sum…

Finally, hah~ The real Dim Sum. Cheap but quality is still not as good as the Dim Sum Seong Kee at a corner lot at “Jalan Arif 1” near CIMB bank.

Lok Lok Fun

Come Saturday morning, the questions will always be:

“Where to go?” “What to eat?” “What to do?”…..

After much discussion with catfish, we narrow down to 2 option:

~~Syabu~~ Shabu-shabu in Puchong (Me) or 1U (Catfish).

I lose! So we ended up in 1U just in time for ~~breakfast~~ lunch (because we ‘to to mo mo’ and only reach around 2pm). We were starving and Catfish was a bit agitated already. So first mission is: FOOD!!! We hunt around the new food corners in LG floor (it’s near Cold Storage) and stumble upon LOK LOK FUN.

They were having a ‘All You Can Eat’ promotion for only RM9.90. A good deal I must say but Catfish was having second thought about it. All I can think about is I was meant to get my ~~Syabu~~ Shabu-Shabu.

So let the makan begin:

Round 1: mussels, squids, marinated chicken, crab meat, century egg, straw mushroom, ‘um chun’ egg, UFO fish paste thingy, and lettuce.

Round 2: Panda fish cake (So cute~), bean curd skin, button mushroom, abalone mushroom, straw mushroom (Can see that we are fungus lover), ham, meatball, siu mai, kang kung and mussels again.

They have 2 variety of soup base. Plain Water or Tom Yam.

erm… Plain Water???? Siao a… of course Tom Yam la… but with an additional charge of RM 2. It’s worth it though because the Tom Yam gives it an added Omph factor.

Catfish is the guinea pig for the day. They have the normal Chili sauce, Sweet sauce, Peanut sauce (which is good) and the most special and tastiest Thai Chili sauce.

Look at the amount of food we ate.. OMG!!! I wouldn’t recommend this kind of eating without the promotion.

This is the reason why. Based on the amount we ate, the bill will totaled up to RM60.00!!!! So if you are interested, quick go try it out before the promotion end (according to the waitress, it’s end of May).

At the end of the day our bill is only RM26.50 including 2 drinks. No tax.

A fun and satisfying meal indeed. It’s definitely a more hygienic way of enjoying Lok Lok. No more staring in horror when some inconsiderate people re-dip their half bitten fish ball.. bluek~

We then proceed to walking around 1U to ease our full stomach and I found this. teeheehee~

Angry and Sad ‘Sun’ issueS

ITS GONE!!! GONE!!! GONE!!!

It’s really annoying when foods that I bought intended to be eaten by only me always just ‘poff’ gone into mist. Just like a murderer leaving no evidence left behind.

2 days back my colleague, Wong, specially bought a biscuit from Taiwan (well not exactly this one, but the transparent wrapper do look similar):

It was so nice for Wong to keep one for me since I have requested it. Thanks! I was so happy and can’t wait to try it but as always I’ll keep it till I get back to enjoy it with PW. Got back home placed it on the table and proceed to cook dinner and was left there till one day later (i forgot about the 2-legged mice at home). Just when I thought it was the right moment to eat it today, it was GONE!!! I felt so angry that I almost made PW into a bad mood.

Well it was a missed review so:

Sun biscuit (pronounced as Tai Yang Bing in Mandarin) is a popular and famous Taiwanese snack. It is even popular to be brought back as a souvenir. Well put it this way it is just like the famous Siew Pau when you are in Seremban. How did it get it name? 1. It was originate from a shop named ‘Sun Hall’ 2. Because it looks like the shape of the Japan flag.

The taste? I can’t really recall the last time I ate it, perhaps ‘Helmut The Lim’ can describe it. Some research online said it taste like Lou Po Peng (wif'e’s cake) but so much nicer than it. Why can it be GONE~ sob…

Actually I didn’t want to blog today at all, it was due to another sad story with regards to the other ‘Sun’. Sunny Boy (what PW call my old Nissan Sunny) got into an Alzheimer or some Parkinson disease. Imagine if you are driving in the dark, alone, what would you feel when you wiper suddenly turned on without you switching it followed by RPM and Volt meter to jump crazily? In the end your radio just trip OFF and turn on again… Way CREEPY~! After dinner, I was so scared that sunny boy is really into some serious sickness as he keeps waving to everyone on the road with it’s wiper, I can’t resist to drive to the mechanic nearby my house to get it checked immediately. When I got there, sunny boy could not be started, he is death silent. Feeling lucky (got to a mechanic) and unlucky (sunny boy is dead) at the same time but mostly sad. The mechanic changed the main fuse which he suspected, cross finger that is the main problem. It got started after that, phew. It was quite late so he asked me to bring in another day to have a thorough check up on him.

Exhausted Catfish

It’s been so tiring to get PW in to the blogging mood. This is what she did to avoid from starting up her first post:

The blog design is a no no.
Must have a proper introduction. Lengthy one I would say.
Being rational she agreed that it is indeed too lengthy and it will take forever to finish, so she agree I should start writing other post first.
After getting initial blog design + 2 blog started, she said we don’t have a good banner.
Next, no site meter!!!... etc etc

Setting aside the “above”, I want to compliment myself that Nibble of Thoughts blog page design do look decent now. =P Don’t you think so? It’s been ages since I touched CSS and HTML.

The blog design was a courtesy of N.Design Studio. Painfully edited it to suit our blogging need. There were problems like the content width could not fit full length landscape photo, some part were nibbled off. Didn’t like the way how the labels, comments and post date were positioned. The most troublesome is the calendar display for each post was a pain. It takes me long hours to figure out how to use the CSS and javascript. It look alright for the moment although there is some problem loading the javascript on IE browser.

There was a big problem with the page header picture but it worked out nicely! All thanks to PW’s brilliant idea. Spot anything? (Note: 100% Genuine photo, only 1 history edit in photoshop) Best scenic photo taken with PW, was taken in Kuala Selangor during our 3rd year anniversary trip to Pangkor.

It was worthwhile after the pain. Do comment on the design, I did put a lot of effort in it. Suggestions are welcome, this is my first time designing a blog.

I guess reading this was painful and draggy post, I do apologize for it!

Pains and exhausted catfish aside, writing this post was a great experience and easy with the use of Windows Live Writer instead of the small post edit form in Blogger. This was recommended by Mr YJ Microsoft, thanks pal. I’ll update more after I get to learn more about it. If you’ve tried it, do share your findings with me.

Teary Day...

I am a total mess today... Tears streaming down every 5 minutes.. If the neighbours are watching, they must think some sort of abuse is taking place.. Poor DD (aka Catfish) will be blame for it.. nyehehhheh

Ridiculous isn't it? For the record, I'm not the sort of person who cry easily.. What is happening to me??? I just got so inspired by those participant. Some of the recommended acts : Shaheen Jafargholi, Good Evans, and of course the infamous Susan Boyle..

Go watch if you have the time.. :)

PS: One tip of making the show seems more interesting to you, watch it when you have something more important to attend to.. Trust me, every act will be eye catching...

PPS: I can see DD fuming behind me for the 1st PS... I am suppose to be preparing for a very important future shaping presentation... hehehe.... shh~

3 weeks back: while reading through thestar.com.my, KitKat advertisement flashed at me luring me to its website. I'm always sceptical with these type of advertisements but somehow @_@ Woo cool! =) Free movie ticket why not?

2 weeks back: We reminded ourself to check the location of the KitKat counter whether it is in Midvalley... Lucky enough, Yes! but we got up late and too late for the sing-k appointment so we waited till end of the singing session to go but Redbox was so generous to let us on for 1.5h++ which wasn't usually the case. We went there at 6 past and the counter are closed. Double dissapointment when we got home to find out that there were 2 counters at midvalley!! Watson and Jusco!

1 week back: It was not intentional but somehow we ended up in L'Oreal Sdn Bhd Warehouse sales (PW will update on that) at Parkroyal Hotel. Hahah we are just fated to get it, the counter is located at Sg Wang Watson on the same day. This time no matter what we definitely need to get hold of it.

Result: We got 2 Free ticket voucher by buying 4 6-pack KitKat! Yippie!!!

Gosh! It's been ages since we are able to write something since the first casual "welcome" post. Such a big lazy bum to get into the blogging gear. Well one of the main reason was PW wanted to start of with a very nice and long 24 question and answer blog from each of us. However, it never get very far. LOL. Hahah and this is my first time blogging, so a little reluctant to jump into blogging gear yet, do give comment on how to improve my post. I have got quite some photos to blog about but was on hold.
